Why is Lansing and Bath Township Haunted
Lansing's original name was Biddle City. Thankfully in 1848, it would change its name to Lansing after New York statesman John Lansing, Jr. Like most cities in Michigan, it began as a fur trading post and then when the demand to find a safe location for the capital away from the boarders of Canada was needed, this blank canvas of wilderness was chosen in the heart of the lower Michigan peninsula.
The Capital's history is marred with tragedies including riots in the capital, devastating historical fires, harsh industrial accidents and a frontier that would push back from settler development.

The Capital has many buildings attached to many tragic passings.
The Rotunda Painter: A painter high up on scaffolding was repainting the Capital's Rotunda building when he fell tragical to his death. Now reports of cold spots, ethereal sounds coming from the darkness of night, and an apparition of what is believed to be the worker are observed in painter's clothing.
The Fallen Page: A young legislative page from the 1880s fell tragically to his death two stories up. A brave yet reckless attempt at trying to leap betwen the grand staircase rails resulted in his abrupt demise. Now is the spirit of the young man destined to walk the stairs unfolding a haunting claimed by staff and visitors alike.

Turner Dodge Mansion
In 1855, the Turner Dodge Mansion was built lovingly by James Turner, one of the founding families of the state capital. In true sense of the Victorian Era, this family found itself enthralled with the mystical world of the supernatural. They sought answers, as many did, through the avenues of vigils and seances. They may have opened the door to the beyond for answers but what passed through is what is unfolding the haunting at this location to this day.
Outside of those spirits invited into the mansion, Marion Turner is believed to still be lingering at this site-too attached to move beyond it.
Reports of shadow figures moving through the house, the footsteps from earth-bound spirits, and the whisp of a strange perfume wafted through the halls are experienced. Apparitions in clothing described as coming from the 1800s are witnessed and these spirits seem to focus at the grand staircase and the upstairs bedrooms to make themselves known.

Rotary Steam Clock at the Former Kerns Hotel Site
This clock is no ordinary clock. With each chime it heralds a haunting of the vicitms lives lost in a catastropic 1909 fire where 34 lives were lost. The fire was the worst fire disaster i the history of Lansing. At 5:30 am, it spread so fast through the timber structure that many were trapped inside unable to escapte. Ladders and nets were used to help save some. Of the victims, seven were Michigan State Legislators. How did the fire start? The fire investigators best guess was a recklessly discarded cigarette.
The Rotary Steam Clock stands exactly on the location of this tragic fire to this day. Standing 28-foot tall, you will be hard pressed to miss this clock at the corner of North Grand Avenue and East Michigan Avenue near Wentworth Park.
Is it a beacon for the restless souls from the horrific fire? Is it a conduit that pulls the last remnants of sorrow and supernatural forces and hone this to this one location? Is it the last stand of a residual energy that echos through time from the December 11, 1934 Kerns Hotel Fire? Regardless of the reason, many believe a haunting does unfold here.
Visitors experience unexplained drops in temperature or an air that has a supernatural movement to it. These experiences always and only happen at the base of the Clock Tower.
Mary Mayo Hall at Michigan State University
Urban Legends are practically a requirement study when students attend and live on college campuses. From Bloody Mary to the Tall Man, but at Michigan State University, the Urban Legend may just be a haunting.
The building in question was named after Mary Mayo, an advocate for women's education at MSU. An illness ultimately ended her life and many claim that her spirit still roams the halls more than a century and half later to make sure her passion for education continues.
Walk into the lobby and her roaming eyes may be upon you and follow you through the space...at least the eyes from her portrait which is prominantly displayed for perpituity at the Hall. Stay long enough in the hall and walk its corridors and the echoing of ghostly piano music or disembodied footsteps may be shadowing your every move.

The Memorial Plaque for the Bath School Disaster
Bath Township-Bath Consolidated School Massacre
The 18th of May, 1927 was a quiet school day at the Bath Consolidated School that soon would turn infamous. Andrew Kehoe, a disgruntled politician with a failed school board political campaign and on the brink of bankruptcy, decided to plant 500 pounds of explosives under the school's south wing to detonate with explosives also planted at the Bath Consolidated School. The latter was successful in its detonation taking the lives of 39 people. Officials would later find the undetonated 500 pounds. Kehoe continued his malicious assault when rescue workers arrived, detonating himself and four other rescue workes in a truck he drove to the scene with even more explosives. Earlier that day Kehoe murdered his wife by using explosives on his farmstead. And in these series of fiery explosions the Bath Consolidated School terrorism act remains the deadliest act of mass murder at a school in U.S. history.
The tragedy his infamous school explosion in Michigan that is now associated with haunting stories occurred at the former. The school is no longer able to be viewed-demolished in the 1970s now stands at the site the James Couzens Memorial Park. Visitors and paranormal investigators report disemebodied voices that take on the form of cries for help. Other phenomenon include being touched, cold spots, and EVPs.
The former site of the funeral home where the bombing victims were prepared for burial our now apartments. Former tenants have reported hauntings that manifest as children sobbing, distressed and pacing footsteps of the unseen, and the apparition of an eight-year-old bombing victim making himself known. His apparition is often seen with no legs.
Pleasant Hill Cemetery, the site of many of the bombing victims burials, have reports of strange occurrences including EVPs of the murdered children.
